Adrenocorticotropic hormone (also known as corticotrophin) is a peptide hormone secreted by the anterior pituitary gland. It is a stress-related hormone that promotes the production and release of cortisol, as well as playing a role in circadian rhythm. In the brain, ACTH receptors are found primarily on adrenocortical cells in the adrenal cortex. Receptors are also expressed in osteoblasts. The ACTH-SAP conjugate will eliminate cells expressing the ACTH receptor. This conjugate can be used to study acute multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, allergic conjunctivitis, and ulcerative colitis, among other conditions.
